“Am I Manglik?” — how the answer is decided

You are considered Manglik when Mars (Mangal) occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of your birth chart. Nothing else about your chart changes that classification — it is decided purely by which of those six houses Mars falls in, counted from your Ascendant (Lagna). Enter your birth date, exact time, and birth city in the tool above and the answer is computed from your real Mars position, not a generic table.

“Am I non-Manglik?” is the same calculation read the other way: if Mars sits in any of the remaining six houses (3rd, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th), no Manglik Dosha is formed and you are non-Manglik.

Mangal Dosha, Kuja Dosha, Chevvai Dosham — all the same thing

The same condition carries different names across India, which is why searches for it look so varied. All of these refer to Mars in one of the six Manglik houses:

• Manglik Dosha / Mangal Dosha / Mangalik Dosh — the Hindi-belt names, from Mangal (Mars).
• Kuja Dosha / Kuja Dosham — the Telugu and Kannada name; Kuja is Mars in Sanskrit.
• Chevvai Dosham / Sevvai Dosham — the Tamil name; Chevvai is Mars in Tamil.
• Bhom Dosha / Bhaum Dosha — an older Sanskrit variant, from Bhauma, an epithet of Mars.

If a family or astrologer told you that you have “Kuja Dosham” or “Sevvai Dosham,” the check above is the one you want — there is no separate calculation for the regional names.

Angarak Dosha is a different condition and is often confused with this one. Angarak Dosha is formed by a conjunction of Mars and Rahu in the same house — not by Mars occupying one of the six Manglik houses. The names sound related because Angaraka is itself an epithet of Mars, but the two are separate placements with separate rules. This tool checks Manglik Dosha, not Angarak Dosha.

Is Manglik marriage actually a problem?

Classical texts flag Manglik Dosha mainly in the context of marriage matching, where the traditional concern is friction, delay, or health matters affecting the couple. Two points that get lost in most retellings:

• Manglik + Manglik is treated as neutralising. When both partners carry the dosha, the traditional view is that the effect cancels between them, which is why matchmakers often pair two Mangliks deliberately.
• The dosha is frequently cancelled outright. A long list of classical conditions (Manglik Dosha Bhang) can void it — see the next section.

A Manglik reading on its own is not a verdict on a marriage. It is one factor among many in a full compatibility analysis, and the tool above tells you whether cancellation applies in your specific chart rather than leaving you with a bare yes/no.

When Manglik Dosha is cancelled (Manglik Dosha Bhang)

Classical sources list a number of conditions under which the dosha is considered void or substantially weakened. The most commonly cited:

• Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or in exaltation (Capricorn).
• Mars aspected by or conjunct Jupiter or the Moon — benefic influence is held to defuse the dosha.
• Both partners Manglik — the mutual-cancellation rule above.
• Mars in Leo or Aquarius in certain house positions, per several regional traditions.
• Age-based mitigation — some traditions hold that the dosha weakens considerably after roughly age 28.

Because cancellation depends on the rest of the chart and not just Mars alone, a generic “Manglik or not” table cannot tell you whether it applies. The check above evaluates these conditions against your actual planetary positions.

Anshik Manglik, full Manglik, and double Manglik

Not every Manglik placement carries the same weight, which is why two people can both be “Manglik” and get very different readings:

• Anshik Manglik (partial) — Mars in a Manglik house but weakened by sign placement or benefic aspect. The mildest form.
• Full Manglik — Mars in a Manglik house with no mitigating factor.
• Double Manglik — a stricter reading used in some traditions where Mars afflicts the relevant houses from both the Lagna and the Moon chart (Chandra Lagna).

The tool reports which of these applies to you along with an intensity rating, rather than collapsing everything into a single Manglik / non-Manglik label.

Do I need my exact birth time?

Yes, and it matters more here than for most checks. Manglik status is read from the house Mars occupies, and houses are set by the Ascendant — which moves through all twelve signs in a day, roughly one every two hours. A birth time off by two hours can shift Mars from the 7th house into the 6th and flip the answer entirely. If your recorded time is uncertain, treat the result as provisional and get a birth-time rectification before acting on it.
