Moon transit in nakshatra dates — when is the Moon in X?

Use this tool when your question is “when will the Moon be in a specific nakshatra / rashi?” or its past-tense twin “when was the Moon in it?” — for example, moon transit in Vishakha dates, Rohini nakshatra days, or Moon in Cancer dates. You specify the target nakshatra or rashi plus a date range up to 185 days wide — the range can sit anywhere in the past or future — and the tool returns every window in it during which the Moon occupies that target, with entry time, exit time, and duration in your local timezone. Moon transit in every nakshatra — all 27

The Moon crosses all 27 nakshatras roughly every 27.3 days, spending about a day in each. Because the Moon’s nakshatra is the janma nakshatra — the birth star used for naming, muhurta and Vimshottari Dasha — every one of the 27 is worth searching. Each is listed below with what classical texts favour it for.

• Moon transit in Ashwini dates — favoured for healing, medicine, travel and fresh starts. A gandmool nakshatra.
• Moon transit in Bharani dates — suits endurance, discipline and seeing things through; classically avoided for auspicious beginnings.
• Moon transit in Krittika dates — favoured for cutting through obstacles, purification and decisive action.
• Moon transit in Rohini dates — considered one of the most auspicious nakshatras of all, especially for weddings, planting and anything meant to grow.
• Moon transit in Mrigashira dates — suits searching and seeking — shopping, travel, research and gentle pursuits.
• Moon transit in Ardra dates — associated with upheaval that clears the way; generally avoided for auspicious work.

Moon in Cancer / Moon in Taurus dates — searching by rashi rather than nakshatra, these two matter most: the Moon rules Cancer and is exalted in Taurus, so both are read as its strongest placements.

Days classically avoided — when NOT to schedule

Many searches are for the opposite reason — finding windows to avoid for weddings, muhurta, or major launches. The tool works the same way: pick the target, and every upcoming window is returned so you can rule those dates out.

• Moon in Scorpio dates — the Moon is debilitated in Scorpio (Vrischika). Classical muhurta texts avoid Moon-in-Scorpio days for weddings, griha-pravesh, and major beginnings.
• Gand Mool nakshatra days — Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Moola, Revati. Births during Gand Mool traditionally call for a shanti puja on the 27th day. Search each nakshatra to find every upcoming Gand Mool window.
• Panchak nakshatras — Dhanishtha (last half), Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati. During Panchak (~5 days each cycle), classical tradition prohibits roof laying, wood collection, cremation rites, bed-making, and southward travel. Use the Panchak Calendar for annotated windows with sub-type — Rog, Raj, Agni, Chor, Mrityu, or Neutral.
• Bharani nakshatra days — ruled by Yama; classically avoided for weddings and joyful ceremonies, though favoured for firm decisions and cutting ties.
• Krittika nakshatra days — ruled by Agni; sharp energy classically avoided for delicate negotiations and diplomatic openings.
• Vishakha, Ardra, Chitra, Shatabhisha — classically flagged as mixed or challenging for specific muhurta types; check tradition-specific texts for context.
• Moon in Capricorn (adjacent to Scorpio debilitation) — the Moon's approach to and departure from debilitation is also treated cautiously in some texts, particularly for emotional or relational matters.

Note: These are classical guidelines. Individual chart context (dasha, natal Moon placement, aspects) can override or modify these recommendations. Consult a qualified Vedic astrologer for personal muhurta decisions.

Why the 185-day cap?

The Moon returns to the same nakshatra every ~27.3 days and the same sign every ~27.3 days too (13 sign visits per year). A 185-day search returns ~6-7 hits per target — enough to plan the next six months of upcoming Moon-in-target windows without producing an unusably long results table.
