Jupiter Live Tracker
♃Where is Jupiter right now? Its live sidereal position — sign, nakshatra, pada, dignity — plus retrograde & combust status.
Note: All calculations use Lahiri Ayanamsa (sidereal) and Swiss Ephemeris for high precision. Times are displayed in your local timezone. Jupiter stays in each sign for ~12 months when direct, up to ~15 months total when a retrograde loop happens in one sign region. Jupiter goes retrograde roughly once every 13 months for ~120 days each, and is combust within 11° of the Sun (in both directions).
About Jupiter's Live Position (Guru Gochar Now)
Where is Jupiter right now?
The Live Tracker shows Jupiter's current sidereal position — computed from the Swiss Ephemeris DE431 planetary dataset at the exact moment you load this page. The readout uses Lahiri Ayanamsha to convert tropical longitude to sidereal, matching what Vedic panchang publications and traditional Muhurta software report. Because Jupiter takes ~12 months to cross one sign when direct, the position card updates slowly — refreshing the page a few minutes later will not shift the sign, only the degree.
What each field means
- Sign (Rashi) — the sidereal zodiac sign Jupiter currently occupies, out of 12.
- Nakshatra & Pada — the specific lunar mansion and quarter (out of 27 nakshatras × 4 padas each). Determines the daily "flavor" of Jupiter energy in traditional readings.
- Degree — exact sidereal longitude within the sign, displayed as degrees ° minutes' seconds".
- Retrograde flag — whether Jupiter's sidereal speed is currently negative (moving backward). Jupiter is retrograde roughly once every 13 months, for about 120 days at a time.
- Combust flag — whether Jupiter is within 11° of the Sun, in both directions, the Surya Siddhanta combustion thresholds. Distance to Sun also shown.
- Dignity — which of these states Jupiter is in right now:
- Exalted — all of Cancer
- Moolatrikona — Sagittarius 0°00'00"–10°00'00"
- Own sign — Sagittarius 10°00'01" onward, and all of Pisces
- Debilitated — all of Capricorn
- Neutral — any other sign
- Peak exaltation — exactly 5°00'00" Cancer, an instant rather than a window
- Peak debilitation — exactly 5°00'00" Capricorn, an instant rather than a window
- Sign entry / exit times — the exact moments Jupiter entered its current sign and will exit into the next one, in your local timezone.
Live vs Date Lookup — which do I use?
Live Tracker is for "where is Jupiter at this exact moment" — useful when checking today's transit before starting a Jupiter-signified activity, or seeing whether a real-time event coincides with a retrograde or combust window. For a historical or future date — e.g. checking Jupiter at your birth moment, or planning a wedding, ceremony or study Muhurta months ahead — use the Date Lookup tool, which computes Jupiter at local sunrise for any date. Both use the same Swiss Ephemeris engine.
Common questions this page answers
This page answers “right now” questions — no date to enter, no target to pick. Typical phrasings:
- Where is Jupiter right now? — the readout gives Jupiter’s exact sidereal longitude, rashi, nakshatra, and pada at this moment, recomputed each time you load the page.
- Is Jupiter retrograde right now? — the card shows a Direct / Retrograde (Vakri) flag. Jupiter is retrograde roughly once every 13 months for about 120 days — close to one day in three overall — so it reads Direct most of the time, but far less overwhelmingly than the faster planets.
- Is Jupiter combust today? — the Combust (Guru Asta) flag plus the live angular distance to the Sun, measured against the classical 11° threshold.
- What rashi is Jupiter in today? — the current Guru Rashi. Jupiter stays ~12 months per sign when direct, longer if a retrograde loop keeps it in the same sign region.
- Which nakshatra is Jupiter in today? — the current nakshatra plus its ruling planet and deity.
- Is Jupiter exalted or debilitated right now? — the dignity readout flags Cancer (exalted), Sagittarius and Pisces (own signs), and Capricorn (debilitated) placements.
- Is today good for a ceremony, wedding or course of study by Jupiter criteria? — check three flags at once: Direct (not retrograde), uncombust, and a favourable sign. All three appear on the same card.
For a different date rather than right now, use the Date Lookup tool. To find when Jupiter will next be in a specific nakshatra or rashi, use Find Dates.
Related tools
- Date Lookup — Jupiter's complete readout at local sunrise for any past or future date. Useful for verifying a specific date rather than scrolling the timeline.
- Find Jupiter Transit Dates — reverse lookup. Pick a nakshatra or rashi and get every Jupiter window in the next 730 days — wide enough to span a Jupiter retrograde and the visits around it, including retrograde re-entries as separate rows.
- Guru Rashi & Nakshatra Peyarchi (Year Timeline) — also called Guru Peyarchi. Every Jupiter sign visit for a chosen year as a card, with retrograde loops shown as connected multi-visit chains, combust windows, and peak-dignity moments called out. Both layers share this one page — the Nakshatra timeline sits directly below the sign cards, with pada-level entry / exit times and Jupiter-owned Nakshatras (Punarvasu, Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada) highlighted.
